Children and Teenagers are Vulnerable Targets in Online Sexual Abuse

Growing up in a digital era provides endless opportunities. Through computers, smartphones, gaming consoles, and televisions, children can learn, imagine, and connect with others. When used responsibly and made accessible to everyone, the internet has the power spark creativity across the globe. However, these opportunities come with serious risks.

The dangers of online sexual abuse is deeply alarming, making children and teenagers vulnerable to exploitation. The internet has made it easier than ever for offenders to contact potential victims, share exploitative imagery, and incite others to commit similar crimes. Victims may be targeted through the creation, distribution, and consumption of sexual abuse material. Others may face grooming, where offenders manipulate and coerce them into sharing explicit content or even meeting in person.

In the digital world, perpetrators can create and store exploitative material from anywhere, often operating in anonymity. Some offenders even livestream sexual abuse, directing on-demand exploitation of children who may be located miles away.

Addressing these dangers requires proactive efforts to protect children and teenagers online, and educate them about digital safety.
